Real
Women Issues is a website dedicated to helping women.

Our goal is to give women as much information possible to be able to make well informed decisions in their lives.

We also want to create a community of women, through our forum, that can share different experiences that will help others overcome hardship by feeling supported and understood.

Women need a place where they can unwind, step away from the daily grind and have a safe haven to come to and feel welcomed and part of a group that cares.

We hope that this site will become your daily haven.

Spotlight Story

Growing up with A.D.H.D.

Hello, my name is Ashtai M. Brooks.  I am 19 years old, and a second year university student.

I was diagnosed with Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (A.D.H.D.) when I was only five years old.  I didn’t learn how to talk until about that same age, with a speech therapist and my Mom’s help.

School was hell to me, the kids teased me and they called me names, because they couldn’t understand why I did certain things.  Some teachers seemed to think that I was a little “nuts”, and hurt me by saying it to other people.  I remember my Mom used to try and explain to them that it was just a condition, like so many others, and that I had no control over a lot of my actions, but they still didn’t seem to understand, so my Mom simply prayed over the situation, and we reached inner peace and self-control.

With the help of my Mom, other members of my family and therapists, I soon began to deal with my condition, and got excellent grades in school.  I have a very high IQ, which proves that intelligence has nothing to do with it in every case.  I couldn’t make friends and was always alone. I grew rebellious, and soon developed other conditions, like Borderline Personality, Oppositional Defiance, and other less important ones.  I felt really miserable all the time while growing up.

Now, I have learned to deal with my conditions, and have been able to attract the attention of many friends.  I am loved and considered a leader in the university community, and even at home, where I have taken over the responsibilities of my home, due to my Mom’s many illnesses.

Bottom line…?... if you have this condition, or know someone who does, don’t think they are stupid, or crazy…no, no, no; that is not the case of people with A.D.H.D. at all!  Each case may differ a bit, but it’s not the end of the world.  We can get ahead as much or even better than other people with worse conditions or without any condition at all! So be positive, have faith, and don’t give up ever; trust me!!!
